When I was eleven, we had a guy named Pete on my baseball team. Pete was a good hitter, except that Pete swung at every pitch. If the other team figured this out, they could easily strike out Pete. I remember one day the coach telling Pete not to swing at every pitch, but to wait for a pitch over the plate. Pete nodded, as he always did. The first pitch was WAY over Pete’s head. Pete got up on his tippy toes and took a big swing at it. He hit a home run. When he got back to the dugout, I remember the coach going up to Pete to talk to him. When the coach got there, they looked at each other and nobody said anything. The coach then looked up at the sky. I am pretty sure he sighed.
